Onward Education is partnering with a school district in DuPage County, Illinois (near Elmhurst) to hire a Registered Nurse (RN) for school-based coverage during a leave of absence. This is an in-person role supporting students and staff with day-to-day health needs, medication administration, and care coordination.
As a school nurse, you'll provide nursing services in a school setting--supporting student health, responding to injuries/illness, managing chronic conditions, and partnering with families and school teams to keep students safe and learning.
Position Details (LOA Coverage Options):
- Option 1: Elementary School RN (K-5)
- Schedule: 40 hours/week (includes 30-minute paid lunch)
- Dates: 8/28/2026 - 11/6/2026
- Student population: approximately 350 students enrolled
- Option 2: RN Float Substitute (EC-12)
- Schedule: 37.5 hours/week (includes 30-minute paid lunch)
- Dates: 8/6/2026 - 10/23/2026
- Assignment: district float coverage (school site and daily hours may vary based on need)
- Assess and respond to student illnesses, injuries, and health concerns during the school day
- Administer medications and support students with chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, seizure plans)
- Create and maintain student health plans and health documentation as needed
- Communicate with families, providers, and school staff to coordinate care and support attendance
- Serve as a health resource for staff and help promote a safe school environment
Qualifications:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Illinois)
- PEL required (Professional Educator License)
- School-based nursing experience is a plus, but not required if you have strong pediatric/community nursing fundamentals
- Ability to work on-site and move confidently in a fast-paced school environment
